Brand Upon the Brain! (2006) with Guy Maddin

This second segment of his trilogy about Maddin’s life in Winnipeg, was originally mounted as a theatrical event.  Young Guy Maddon (played by two actors) returns to a childhood haunt, Black Notch Island, to paint the lighthouse where he once lived and now an orphanage run by his parents. Genre-bending – sci-fi, comedy, melodrama, biography – from one of cinema’s true originals. Shot in Seattle in two weeks for $40,000. Co-scripted with George Toles.  99 minutes
