Rain the Color of Blue with a Little Red In It (Akounak Tedalat Taha Tazoughai ) (2015)  Director: Chris Kirkley

Praised as the “African Purple Rain”, Kirkley’s film features hot “desert blues” guitarist-pop icon Mdou Moctar – in a Prince-like role, following the guitarist’s rise to global stardom via social media and the vinyl explosion. This is the first Tuareg dialect film, which has no word for “purple”, thus the title. Guest musician/ethnomusicologist Jim Thomson, director of Multifloral Productions.  75 minutes
