NEOVOXER (Michael Pope, 2001, 93 min) featuring Michael Pope. This feature-length non-dialog experimental film is about three friends—The Artist, The Dancer and The Fool—who go on a metaphysical journey through the minefield of their own flawed natures. Designed to be a “collective creative action”, NEOVOXER harnessed the efforts of artists and artisans from around the world to create an impressionistic mythology culled from dream imagery and supersensory archetypes. Combining various film and video formats, the film was originally shot and screened in its continuing evolution over the course of six years in Boston, New York, Prague, and Plzen as Event Cinema—with a musical ensemble performing the score and sound effects live combined with site-specific installation and living tableau performance. NEOVOXER was acclaimed by the Boston Globe as “An unforgettable sensory experience. A must-see event” and has been referred to as “Surrealistic Lyricism” (Metalopolis), “Groundbreaking… Defying the boundaries of genre…” (South End News), and “Nothing less than cataclysmic” (The Dig). This is its first screening in over 11 years with a score recorded live at Oni Gallery in Boston. Admirers of Alejandro Jodorowsky, Matthew Barney’s The Cremaster Cycle, and E. Elias Merhige’s 1990 cult classic Begotten should take note of this work of art. Writer/Director Michael Pope will be on hand for an introduction and meet and greet.
