The Biograph

The Biograph Repertory Theatre, 1972-1987, was located at 814 W. Grace. St, near VCU, and programmed a diverse selection of world cinema and classical Hollywood films, as well as cult and midnight titles. It contained two houses and ran double bills Mon-Wed/ Thurs-Sun as well as midnight shows Fridays and Saturdays--sometimes as many as ten movies a week--so printed programs and handbills and fliers were produced in great quantity! The James River Film Festival was founded in 1994 with the Biograph spirit in mind, as many of the organizers had either been employed at the Biograph, or had been ardent supporters.
